Garden fencing guide

In today’s post we’re going to be taking a look at garden fencing and providing you with a comprehensive guide based on our many years of experience. We hope you find it illuminating and helps you to come to an informed decision when purchasing new garden fencing. Our landscape gardeners in West Lothian are also on hand to help you make that choice.

If you’re building a boundary, or shutting off part of your garden, then you’ll be needing to fence it off. If you don’t know much about fencing other than what it’s for, then that might prove problematic when you’re deciding on which garden fencing design is best.

Firstly, take a look at your garden and think about what type of garden fencing would be best for its style and shape. We’re going to be discussing the most popular type of fencing out there so you’ll have a better idea of what’s available, but as long as it fulfils its practical purpose, you can have whichever type of fencing you prefer.

Picket garden fencing

Also known as palisade, this is a style of garden fencing which is great for cottage gardens, it’s made from timber, which is pressure treated so the panels are safe from rot. Picket fencing is great for flower beds and trees too and you can paint it to fit in with your home. Styles include pointy sword top, round or flat.

Close board garden fencing

This is made from feather edge boards which are then vertically arranged and are supported by rails which sit horizontally between either concrete or timber posts in the ground. It’s a strong type of fencing and is great if you want to deter burglars as it’s hard to climb.

Trellis & lattice garden fencing

Lattice garden fencing consists of diamond shaped timber while trellis is square shaped. If you want to keep an eye on foot traffic near your property and see out clearly, then these two types of fencing may be suitable. You could also use trellis and lattice fencing to add height to your current fencing by installing it at the top.
